If you were not at Ruby's Roadhouse in Mandeville Saturday night, you missed one great show
.
A musician going by the name of Key took the stage and gave
the unusually big crowd a taste of what an imaginative artist can do with a guitar.
Key Frances Dunn is his full name and Saturday night he let go with some really interesting music.
In his first set, Key cut loose on some hard-line bluesy numbers
that secured the audience's attention.
He opened the set with what has to be one of the best versions of the familiar
'Hambone' I have ever heard.
However, this version takes some attention to be recognized-
I promise you it's not excately the one you are thinking.
His style is hard and rhythmic.
He seems to make the guitar sing out just by moving his body with it.
Key recently returned to the United States from London, his second residence, where he completed production
of his album 'Terra Asylum', which is also the name of a cut on the record. He got his start in and
around Portland, OR, and since then has spent some time as a sessions player with Motown Records.
Key's second set was primarily a transition from the hard-driving audience-grabbing blues of the first set
to the more original "psychoactive" (as he hesitantly dubs his music) sounds of the third set.
All of the night's music sounded more or less blues-orientated, but
the later it got, the more original the music
became.
